"In the darkness, I set free all the cats who live in my throat. Several animals live in the human voice and they appear only when fatigue disappears. In the darkness, there is some chicken meat. Hard chanson...the chanson which is attached to the front of my body tears the darkness apart, sits in it, and throws night into the light of the day."

Bruant thinks that there is a hidden beastly nature in humans, uncontrollable by reason. His work is about liberating the beast in him through performance. In order to do so, Bruant sometimes overstrains his body or quietly descends into his inner self in the darkness. He confronts us with his performance to show us that there are ambiguous realms of the human body and soul.
His video work, Mental Scanning, will be shown at the exhibition space. His performance is also scheduled on Wednesday, April 28th, the first day of the exhibition. (For details, refer to the performance information.)

Mental Scanning, 1995, is a video work of Bruant's performance using his body. For the artist, performance is an act of exploration into the realms of darkness of the human mind. Bruant takes us to the dark inner universe which exists on the other side of reason.
